Corporate Taco Catering – for When You Mean Business

Some say little things make for a productive workforce. But perhaps a simple-to-execute taco break isn’t so small if it recognizes and rewards employees.

A human resources expert recently shared her thoughts on five ways in which employees feel valued outside of compensation. They are flexibility (the work-life balance equation), recognition, interaction, benefits and the opportunity to provide feedback.

To the point of interaction, she told the Houston Chronicle: “Companies that sponsor employee-focused events such as social outings, employee-of-the-year banquets … value their employees’ need for recreation and camaraderie…in a more relaxed setting conducive to forging friendships and connections with their colleagues.”

There is, of course, a wide range of ways to orchestrate events, which of course affects costs – for time off from producing as well as the cost of the events themselves. Each recognition event has its own demands, of course, but a relatively new turnkey operation in event hosting has made this easier, more affordable and quite adaptable in recent years. This operation is mobile taco catering.

How can hiring business taco caterers translate into happier, more productive and more loyal employees? It may seem like an odd connection, but for the astute employee engagement professional there are some distinct advantages:

Fast response and venue flexibility – Because mobile taco caterers have self-contained kitchens in their carts, it’s conceivable you can identify a need for an event on a Tuesday and hold that event on a Wednesday. It might be on-site or off-site, anywhere the carts can be delivered and set up.

Broad appeal – Tacos and Latin American and Caribbean cuisine have become widely understood and appreciated across the broad and diverse swath of the American workplace. Most taco caterers allow individual diners to select their own fillings suggests

Promotion of healthier lifestyles – By and large, tacos are filled with vegetables, fiber and can include healthier proteins (shrimp, tilapia or grilled chicken, for example). University-based research has even identified links between spicy foods and greater longevity – although individual diners themselves determine the degree of spiciness.

Designed for interaction – The taco event is ideal for getting people to walk around and mingle with coworkers, due in large part to the fact that tacos are hand-held. Free of the need to use a fork, knife or spoon, employees do not need to sit.

  • Another expert in employee engagement – a digital industry company “chief culture officer” – made a corroborating point in Inc. magazine. He says that employees should be treated as stakeholders, that the time they spend at work should be thought of an investment. “When fun is a regular part of work, employees get to know each other as real people,” he wrote.

Can a catered taco event be a “regular part of work,” such as to mark promotions, retirements, holidays, employee appreciation, birthdays and other special events? It might help to think about it as a turnkey way to enhance your investment in employees.
