Throwing an Epic Taco Party? Remember Beverage Service

Kon-Tiki Taco Written by

It’s about more than just having a margarita bar. Taco caterers know that big parties require a broad variety of beverages – as varied as the taco choices.

Tacos are officially the party food of our time. The work of taco cart caterers is never complete, however – with limitless ingredient combinations, it’s basically the infinitely varied menu – but that only means even diners with the most finicky of tastes can be satisfied.

Don’t think for a second that said caterers don’t have their specialties. Fish taco catering has become very popular as well as taco catering for vegans, vegetarians and those requiring kosher tacos.

But even if you’re quite pleased with a Caribbean carne asada with a side of pinto beans a la ranchero, you’re still going to need a beverage. So what might that be?

Margaritas! Yes, that’s pretty much the expectation of guests when they hear it’s a taco menu. And why not? The tartness of citrus and tequila mix well with the hot and spicy tacos brought to you by your taco catering team.

Sangria! Considered the more toned-down beverage of mobile taco catering, some think of sangria as the daytime – taco brunch even – choice. Not that anyone has ever refused a cool glass of sangria after 5.

Cervezas! The beers of Mexico are, say some, brewed to accompany (or to be technical, precede) shots of tequila. We don’t insist on that sequence of events as most cervezas stand well on their own. But after a wonderful tilapia taco, a smooth lager or amber brew is a special kind of perfect.

Jarritos! Fruit sodas aren’t just for kids. Who doesn’t want that mandarin carbonation tickling the tongue alongside a grilled shrimp taco with tomatillo salsa?

Agua frescas! OK, some people prefer their fruit juice con gas (without carbonation). It’s all good – taco dinners are a time to enjoy whatever you like.

As for the service of drinks, the party planner has many options. The taco catering carts are distributed evenly about a party, so small bar setups should be distributed as well (as the venue allows). But if there is a reception preceding a meal, it’s a nice gesture to guests that a signature drink, perhaps from the margarita bar, be served by roaming wait staff.

A larger point should not be overlooked. It is that taco parties are events of variety and movement. Variety is in the food: with so many ingredients to be individually chosen by each diner, no two tacos are ever alike. This is beneficial for feeding crowds with specific dietary preferences. But also it’s a more casual, roaming party. No one is stuck sitting next to just three or four people for a long, drawn-out dinner. A little time spent here, a little time spent there… a mix of different tacos, different beverages, and different people.

It’s why taco parties are the right choice for parties where guests want to meet and mingle with a maximum number of people. It works for business and it works for pleasure.
