When it comes to taco catering, it’s not just clever marketing to tack on “gourmet” to a familiar food. With the right ingredients and presentation, tacos are fit for the finest occasions.
If you scan the blogs about special event entertaining, a perennial favorite in the past five or so years has been the evolving, updated version of the taco. Part of this is due to mobile taco cart catering becoming so popular and manageable, but there are other reasons as well.
For example, a popular special events industry blog proclaimed how pairings of mini-sized versions of cocktails and appetizers were in vogue for 2015. An example the blogger provides is a short-rib taco with margarita shots. A different blogger suggests that weddings include late night snacks that include tacos for guests who just can’t stop dancing.
From a practical standpoint, gourmet tacos in the modern definition offer several benefits to the special event planner:
- Location flexibility – Taco catering is most often delivered by way of self-contained in mobile units. So that perfect venue with the one tiny problem – the lack of a kitchen – now might work out after all. Gourmet taco catering means you can host your event at an airplane hangar, a country hillside, the beach or a funky warehouse.
- Familiar and yet exotic – Americans knew fast food tacos before they learned of the gourmet version in the past few years. But perhaps because of the ease of eating them and the mix of tastes and textures, they are popular in all versions. Add some spicy toppings to carne asada, carnitas, grilled tofu, tilapia or shrimp and guests will rave about food for months to come.
- Menu flexibility – A taco is a like a sandwich in that there are so many different variations that you can adapt to the occasion. That’s everything from a mango salsa to slow-simmered carnitas and grilled vegetables. A breakfast taco can start the day and a dessert taco might end it.
- Conversation-casual dynamic – The layout of your event is broadened by using mobile taco catering, particularly if you have several set ups strategically positioned around the venue. This allows guests to mix and move, no forks and knives required, as they spend a portion of their meal here and another portion there. No one gets stuck in dull conversation with just three people at one table for 90 minutes!
So while it’s hard to pin down the definition of gourmet taco catering into any one neat box, perhaps it’s better to think of it as the party planning solution to many problems. Looked at another way, it would be hard to find the guest who dislikes gourmet tacos in an intriguing setting.
